In 2000, 15% of the region was significantly disturbed as grazing land for rein- deer. This figure will increase to 30% in 2030 with petroleum development including several LNG plants, processing plants, and pipeline systems in operation. Development pressures are highest on the coast and affect significantly larger areas in Fennoscandia than in Russia, where development is more concentrated.
