Gambia

Water resources Gambia is located on the west coast of Africa and has an average rainfall of 991 mm/year (AMCOW 2018). Rainfall varies from about 1,000mm/year in the south to less than 800 mm/year in the north (FAO 2016). The country’s aqueduct water stress for all sectors measured in 2010 was 0.54 and is projected to increase to 0.85 by 2040 (Luo et al. 2015). A score of 0.85 indicates that there is low competition among water users relative to available surface-water resources. Gambia’s industrial sector has the lowest proportion of water withdrawals.
