Water resources Burkina Faso receives an annual rainfall of 899 mm (AMCOW 2018). The country has three climatic zones with rainfall increasing from north to south (FAO 2016). Water availability is about 899 m 3 /year per person (AMCOW 2018). The aqueduct water stress for all sectors measured in 2010 was 0.00 and is projected to increase to 0.39 by 2040 (Luo et al. 2015). A score of 0.39 indicates that there is low competition among water users relative to available surface-water resources.
