National Economy and the Main Sectors of the Economy. The main goal of these documents is to promote the sustainable and competitive devel- opment of the country’s non-oil sector. The Stra- tegic Road Maps include an economic develop- ment strategy and action plan for 2016–2020, as well as prospects for the period leading up to and beyond 2025. It should be noted that the main difference between the Strategic Road Maps and previously adopted state programmes is that the Strategic Road Maps define specific indicators that allow the results achieved in each of the pri- ority areas for development of the Azerbaijani economy to be measured. The Law on Environmental Impact Assessment of the Republic of Azerbaijan was adopted on 12 June 2018. It contains, inter alia, provisions for a strategic environmental assessment process. The Sixth Five-Year Economic, Cultural and So- cial Development Plan of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the General Policies announced by the Supreme Leader contain a series of targets re- lating to the Caspian Sea environment. Azerbaijan has also implemented various policies to improve air quality. These include adopting the Euro IV standard from 1 April 2014, replacing outdated infrastructure, replacing medium-sized buses with large ones to increase efficiency and so on. (National Contribution). As noted above (see National governance sec- tion), the main strategic document defining the policy of Azerbaijan in the field of environmental protection is the National Strategy of the Repub- lic of Azerbaijan on Conservation and Sustain- able Use of Biodiversity for 2017–2020, which was approved in 2016 (National Contribution). In 2016, the President of the Republic of Azer- baijan approved the Strategic Road Maps for the
