Mazabuka district, in the Southern Province, covers an estimated total land area of 670,000 hectares of which 66 per cent is arable land. Farming is the district’s major economic activity. Agricultural activities have been expanding since the year 2000. This can be attributed to growth in commercial agriculture, particularly sugarcane, wheat, and coffee production, as well as ranching. Of great significance is the increase in irrigation activities that have occurred alongside the expansion of Zambia Sugar cane plantations, which are shown in the satellite images.
