Kiruhura District was created in July 2005 by an Act of Parliament. The district that borders with seven districts lies in the cattle corridor in South-Western Uganda. The cattle corridor stretches from the Karamoja region, through Teso, into parts of Eastern Uganda, across the Lake Kyoga region, to Nakasongola and further down to Mbarara and Rakai.
