In the Arctic context, future satellite mission priorities should focus on two areas:
yy Earth Observation – in particular, radar sensors that are the most useful for monitoring ice and snow.
yy Communications – in particular, highly elliptical orbit satellites that can provide high bandwidth capabilities for latitudes above about 75 degrees that cannot be seen by geosynchronous orbit satellites.
