The Coastal Ecosystem Mapping and Media Viability Project

Figure 24. Raster dataset output from the ISO Cluster Unsupervised Classification tool. Each pixel cluster in the image has a value between 1 and 8 depending upon the class it belongs to. Photo 3. Raster dataset output from the ISO Cluster Unsupervised Classification tool. Each pixel cluster in the image has a value between 1 and 8 depending upon the class it belongs to. Figure 15 shows the raster dataset that is created after using the ISO Cluster Unsupervised Classification tool. As we see on the image, other features such as shadows and water are also classified as unique features. Therefore, a reclassification (3D analyst => raster reclass) of the classification output is necessary to locate trees only. In our reclassification calculations, we make all non-tree clusters of pixels equal to NoData, and all tree clusters of pixels equal to 1. The new raster datasets is saved as a polygon using the Raster to Polygon tool (conversion tools => from raster) to create a shapefile with mangrove tree features only (figure 19).
