While large-scale fisheries land larger quantities of fish, small-scale fisheries tend to contribute more directly to food security because their catch is generally destined for direct human consumption and a greater share of their

catch is sold in local markets. For developing countries, it is estimated that over half of the catch for domestic human consumption is produced by the small-scale sector (World Bank, FAO & WorldFish Centre, 2010). The sector
