Contributed to the drafting of a Marine and Coastal Strategy for UNEP (formerly “One Ocean” policy). Several meetings and consultations with UNEP and especially the Marine and Coastal Ecosystem Branch to integrate our marine work with UNEP Programme of Work. 10 th Global meeting of the Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans (Guayaquil, Ecuador, November 2008); the Global Conference on Oceans Coasts and Islands in Hanoi. • UNEP GC in Nairobi in February 2009 • Support to UNEP at the Global Oceans Forum in Manado Indonesia 11-15 th May • Participation in the ZERO conference 28-29 September, Gardemoen • DIVERSITAS Open Sea Conference 2 in Cape Town 14-16 October 2009 • Presentation in the Science, Technology and Reference Network (STAR) in Vanuatu from October 21 to 23 • Participation in Ocean Management Research Network (OMRN) National Conference 2009 October 22 AND 23 in Ottawa, Canada • Technical Seminar of the Environmental Commission of the International Navigation Aviation (PIANC) New Orleans 27 October to 2 November 2009 • Participated in COP 15 and the World Ocean Day on December 14 in Copenhagen Participated in peer review of the Assessment of the Assessment report (AoA). The AoA is the first phase towards a regular process for the reporting on the state of the marine environment, according to UN GA Res 60/30. Subcontracted to follow up the report and evaluate a possible Clearing House mechanism. Participated in • UNEP Governing Council in Monaco, February 2008 • The report “In the Dead Water” launched, and the French and Spanish version of “In the Dead Water” translated and launched. RRA report “Blue Carbon, the role of Healthy Oceans in binding Carbon” launced in Cape Town on October 14. http://www.grida.no/publications/rr/bluecarbon/ ebook.aspx Blue carbon is already being promoted worldwide by numerous organizations and countries as an addition to rainforests in carbon sequestration and mitigation of climate change, and has already been included in various programmes and in legal documents in i.e. US Senate.
