Training and workshops on capacity development for Vital Graphics to the Department of Environment and Tourism and preparation of a Working for the Environment package organized in 2008 in Arendal. • Support provided to the State of the Environment reporting process in Afghanistan. • Technical assistance provided to 24 ODA countries [and 3 non-ODA countries: Lithuania, Romania and UAI (Abu-Dhabi)]; among them: 11 countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia/South Eastern Europe ( EECCA/SEE): Belarus , Moldova , Ukraine , Tajikistan , Kyrgyzstan , Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia , Azerbaijan, Armenia ; 3 countries in Africa: Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa ; 2 countries of Asia: Afghanistan and India; 8 countries in Mediterranean: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Israel, The Palestinian Authority, Jordan and Lebanon; 6 regions (Africa, Eastern Europe, Mediterranean, Caucasus, Central Asia, West Asia), 5 city communities Alaverdi, Gumry and Hrazdan (Armenia), Novopolotsk (Belarus) and Donetsk (Ukraine), and 5 rural communities (1 in Kenya and 3 in India]. 1. Health and Environment assessment in the Republic of Moldova facilitated (to be presented at the Ministerial conference on Environment and Health in Europe, Parma 2010) 2. Draft water management plan for the Lake Druksiai / Drisvyaty basin (Belarus, Lithuania) produced and discussed with regional stakeholders. A cross-border information system is under production. 3. Basin-wide GIS system is developed for the Dniester river basin (Moldova (in partnership with Transnistrian region) and Ukraine). A draft of legal agreement on exchange of environmental information is facilitated. 4. Belarus-Ukrainian joint study for water allocation in the Pripyat basin is supported; the rules of operation of the water-feed system are prepared for approval by the bilateral working group on water cooperation. 5. A feasibility study for environmental cooperation in the Danube delta region is facilitated and adopted by Moldova, Ukraine and Romania. 6. Assessment of environmental risks from mining is completed for the Donbas coal basin in Ukraine. Support provided to Donetsk oblast authorities for setting up an automated register of pollution sources, preparing a regional environmental report for 2007-8, and training local mass media. 7. Analysis of energy-environment interactions is prepared for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. Training provided to the countries’ energy and environmental authorities and experts in scenario-building and analysis. 8. Support to Environmental security film festival in Belarus, central and regional levels.
