The Rapid Response Assessment Mine Tailings Storage: Safety Is No Accident detailed the consequences of dam failure, the disproportionate impact on Indigenous and poor communities and importantly, the opportunities to reduce risk and improve safety. The report garnered considerable interest when released at the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development annual general meeting in Geneva in October. It was also the focus of a discussion at the Third UN Environmental Assembly in Kenya in December. GRID-Arendal led a team that produced a report on the State of the Environment in the Raet National Marine Park. This report on Raet Park included an assessment of knowledge gaps and potential future environmental risks to be considered by regional management authorities.
