Supported UNEP by taking part in the Communication, Education and Public Awareness Fair in conjunction with the 9 th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

DCPI A7:Audio-visual exhibitions and presentations at key intergovernmental meetings, environmental conferences and other events in support of UNEP activities to increase impact, to raise awareness and to focus attention on environmental issues. DCPI B5: Celebrations and public events (e.g., World Environment Day), including workshops, lectures, public events, exhibitions and competitions to raise awareness and draw attention to specific environmental themes and to inform and engage all sectors of society in contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development through their decisions and actions. DEWA A6: Outreach and communication materials on environmental data and information, applications, and networks for decision makers to raise and strengthen their awareness of environmental data and information applications and networks. DEWA A7: Global and regional launches and outreach events on findings of environmental assessments to raise and strengthen the awareness of environmental issues and management. DCPI B7: Campaigns and public events engaging stakeholders from civil society and children and youth groups, to enable these groups to undertake practical and high profile activities that benefit the environment and raise awareness of environmental issues DEWA A7: Global and regional launches and outreach events on findings of environmental assessments to raise and strengthen the awareness of environmental issues and management. Participated and organized activities on World Environment Day 2008. Kick the Habit: A UN Guide to Climate Neutrality www.grida.no/publications/vg/kick/ launched.

Uganda

Support to Payments for Ecosystems Services (PES) in Uganda provided. Communities to participate in the programme identified through field work. A feasibility study is currently undertaken in collaboration with a local NGO (Harness Nature Initiatives). Report expected February 2009. Additional activities planned for 2009 Launch and dissemination of Poverty and Environment Times I ssue 5 www.grida.no/publications/et/ep5/ a t the TICAD IV Conference held 27-29 May in Yokohama, Japan organized. Support to UNEP’s public campaign “UNite to Combat Climate Change” provided. An exhibit of selected original artwork and posters from UNEP’s International Children’s Painting Competition organized in Arendal, Norway, 24 October- 11 November, in collaboration with the Arendal Library. A children’s painting competition on the theme Climate Change: Our Challenge organised in collaboration the Arendal Library and with support from the Arendal International School. Winning entries exhibited at the Arendal Library from 10 December 2008 to10 January 2009. Contributed to the publication World Resources Report 2008: Roots of Resilience - Growing the Wealth of the Poor www.wri.org/publication/world-resources-2008- roots-of-resilience Organised launch of the report in Oslo. Support to UNEP provided by hosting a seminar designed to bring together key stakeholders from the Oil and Gas sector to discuss possible joint initiatives with UNEP on environmental matters in February 2009. The seminar, jointly organized by UNEP-DTIE and GRID-Arendal, followed an assessment conducted by UNEP on an initial project proposal to set up an Oil and Gas Sector Climate Protection Partnership.
