Changing Taiga

The Indigenous Peoples of the taiga – who live in the fragile belt of coniferous forest in northern Mongolia – are in trouble. Reindeer herding, which provides the foundation of the unique culture of pastoralists, is in real danger of disappearing. This publication addresses the current state of reindeer husbandry of northern Mongolia and presents recommendations from the Dukha reindeer herders for improving the sustainability of reindeer herding and the management of pastures and their homeland.
