GRID-Arendal is inaugurated and estab- lished as a foundation under the Norwe- gian Ministry of Environment, as part of the United Nations Environment Pro- gramme's Global Resource Information Database (GRID). 1989

The first SoE-Norway, as a PC-based information system, using the concept of "GRID-INFO", is produced by GRID- Arendal for UNCED in Rio de Jainero. 1992 GRID-Arendal expands its Arctic net- work, produces maps and develops da- tabases for international Arctic initiatives (AMAP, IDDEA - later ADD, CAFF, IN- SROP). 1993
